The point is the part you cannot see
Clear vinyl is a transparent adhesive film. Wherever your artwork has no ink, the glass shows through — so a logo applied to a door looks like a logo on the door, not like a sticker of a logo on the door.
That is the whole reason to choose it over a white-backed decal. On glass, a white background announces itself: you see a rectangle with a graphic inside it. Clear vinyl removes the rectangle.
It is properly adhesive, unlike a window cling. It is going up to stay, it will not be knocked off by a door slam, and removing it later takes heat and effort. That is the trade: it looks better and it commits.
Contour cut, and when it is worth it
By default the decal is supplied as a rectangle of clear film with your artwork printed on it. The film is transparent, so on glass this is usually invisible anyway.
Contour cutting trims the film to follow your artwork instead. It costs about 20% more — a 2 ft x 3 ft decal goes from $130.00 to $156.00.
It is worth paying for in two cases. On a surface that is not glass, where the clear film has something behind it and the rectangle edge becomes visible. And on artwork with a strong outline — a shaped logo, a crest, a mascot — where the silhouette is part of the identity. On a simple horizontal lockup applied to a clean window, save the money.

Questions we get asked
Inside, wherever you can reach it. The glass then protects the decal from weather, cleaning and anyone picking at a corner. It also means the print is reversed so it reads correctly from the street — tell us that is what you are doing and we will set it up that way.
A small door decal, yes — clean the glass with water only, let it dry, hinge one edge with tape, and squeegee from the center outward. Anything large or awkward is worth having done, because clear film shows every bubble and there is no second attempt with permanent adhesive.
No, and it is the most common mix-up. Vinyl lettering is cut from colored vinyl with no film between the letters at all — there is nothing to see through because there is nothing there. Clear vinyl is a printed transparent sheet, which is what lets it carry a full-color image rather than flat cut shapes.
Transparent film is a more expensive material and printing onto it takes more ink and more care, because there is no white backing to build the color on. You are paying for the finish that makes it look like part of the glass.
