Write once, everyone gets a copy
NCR stands for "no carbon required". The sheets are coated so that the pressure of a pen transfers what you write onto the sheets beneath — no carbon paper, no photocopier, no phone camera, no "I will email it to you later".
That still matters in every trade where the paperwork happens away from a desk. A signature taken at a customer's door is on a piece of paper in their hand before you leave. The office copy is in the truck. Nobody has to remember anything.

Work out who genuinely needs a physical copy before you order. Three parts is the common answer for service and trade work; two is plenty for a simple receipt; four is for businesses where the paperwork has to reach separate departments.
The colors are conventional and worth keeping, because staff and customers already read them that way — white is the top copy and the one that leaves, and the darker sheets stay behind.
Designing a form that survives a job site
Leave room to write. The single biggest failing in form design is fields sized for typed text rather than a person's handwriting with a gloved hand on a clipboard. Make every line taller than looks necessary.
Remember the pressure is the ink. Everything that must reach the bottom copy has to be written firmly, so keep the important fields in one area rather than scattered, and do not ask for anything to be written in a box smaller than a fingertip.
Number them. Sequential numbering makes forms traceable, which matters for disputes, warranties and accounting. Tell us if you want it and where the numbers should start.
Put the terms on the back or the bottom. If there is a signature, whatever is being agreed to should be on the same sheet the customer keeps.
Do not crowd the edges. Forms get folded into pockets, clipped to boards and shoved into vans. Anything vital at the very edge is the first thing lost.

NCR forms are the one item in our stationery range with no same-day option. Production is 1–2 business days or 3+ business days.
That is not us being awkward. Carbonless sets have to be printed, collated in the right order and glued as sets, which is a genuine sequence of steps rather than a single print run. It cannot be compressed into an afternoon.
The practical consequence: reorder before you run out, not after. The businesses that get caught are the ones that notice the box is empty on a Friday.

Questions we get asked
Usually, yes. Bring in a clean unused copy — not a filled-in one — and we will rebuild it. This is how most of these orders start, because the form works and nobody has the original file any more.
Tell us which you need. Books with a cover are easier to carry and keep sets in order; loose sets suit clipboard use and filing. It changes how we finish them, so say at the time of ordering.
On a 4-part set, yes, with normal pen pressure — a ballpoint rather than a felt tip, and written on a hard surface. This is why the chipboard-backed pad trick does not apply here: you want a clipboard or a book back.
The color option applies to the whole form rather than part of it. In practice, black and white is what most NCR forms should be — the sheets are already colored, the form is a working document, and the money is better spent on more sets.
