13oz or 18oz, and why it decides more than durability
13oz is the standard banner vinyl and the right call for most jobs. Events, promotions, grand openings, anything going up for a few weeks or months.
18oz is nearly half as heavy again, and it buys you two things. It stands up to sustained wind and sun far better, and it hangs flatter on a big banner instead of rippling. But the real difference is this: 18oz can be printed double sided and 13oz cannot. 13oz is thin enough that an image on the back ghosts through to the front, which looks like a printing fault. The heavier material blocks enough light that both sides read cleanly.
So if people will see the banner from both directions — hung across a walkway, off a balcony, mounted perpendicular to a building, strung between two posts in open ground — choose 18oz and the double-sided option will appear.
Finishing, explained
The part most people guess at, and the part that decides how long your banner lasts.

Grommet placement. Top and bottom is the default for a fence or a wall. All sides for anything in real wind. Top only for a banner hanging free. Left and right for one stretched between two posts. Tell us how it is going up and we will put them where they need to be.

Questions we get asked
Can I print both sides?
Yes, on 18oz. Select 18oz vinyl and the double-sided option appears. It is not offered on 13oz because the back image would show through the front.
It is going on a fence in the wind. What should I order?
18oz, welded hem, grommets all sides. If the fence run is long or exposed, consider mesh instead so the wind passes through rather than pushing against it.
What size pole pocket do I need?
Measure the pole. We do 1", 2", 3" and 4". If you are unsure, send a photo and a measurement across the pole and we will work it out.
How long will it last outside?
Vinyl banners hold up well, though sun and wind decide it more than the material does. A banner in full unshaded south-facing sun fades faster than the same one under an awning. Tell us where it is going and we will give you a realistic answer.
Do I need print-ready artwork?
It helps but is not required. Send what you have, design online, or hand it to our designers.
