An opaque core, and why it matters
Blockout fabric has a light-blocking layer built into the middle of the material. That is the entire point of it. Print both sides and neither image ghosts through the other, so each side reads as cleanly as if it were the only one.
You can also print both sides on 18oz vinyl, and for outdoor work that is usually what we would recommend. Blockout fabric is the choice when the banner is indoors and the way it hangs matters.
Fabric drapes, vinyl creases
Fabric falls softly and does not hold fold marks the way vinyl does, so it looks considerably better hanging free in a room. Roll it, store it, hang it again next year and it still looks right. That is why it wins for atrium and lobby displays, stage and event backdrops, church and school hall banners, and anything suspended where people walk underneath and see both faces.
Finishing, explained
The part most people guess at, and the part that decides how long your banner lasts.

Grommet placement. Top and bottom is the default for a fence or a wall. All sides for anything in real wind. Top only for a banner hanging free. Left and right for one stretched between two posts. Tell us how it is going up and we will put them where they need to be.

Questions we get asked
Blockout fabric or 18oz vinyl for a double-sided banner?
Indoors and hanging free, fabric — it drapes better and does not crease. Outdoors or anywhere weather gets at it, 18oz vinyl.
Will it crease in storage?
Far less than vinyl. Fold marks tend to hang out within a day. Roll it if you can and it will be ready immediately.
Can it go outside?
Short term and sheltered, yes. It is not the material for a season on a fence — use vinyl or mesh for that.
How do I hang it?
Pole pockets top and bottom is the tidiest for a suspended banner: the top pocket carries it and a bottom pole weights it so it hangs straight.
