When C size is the right call
18" x 24" is the smallest of the standard architectural sizes, and it is the one people reach for when the drawing does not need a table to read it. A single detail sheet. A residential floor plan. A permit copy that has to fit in a folder. A shop drawing going to a fabricator.
It is also the size that travels well. A C-size set rolls into a short tube, sits on a passenger seat, and opens on a truck tailgate without a second person holding the other end. If your drawings are legible at this size, there is no reason to pay for a bigger sheet.
The test is simple: print one page, put it on a desk, and read the smallest dimension string on it. If you are squinting, move up to 24" x 36".

Pricing scales with area, so a 24" x 36" sheet is twice an 18" x 24" and a 36" x 48" is four times. Useful to know when you are deciding what to issue at what size.
The one thing to know before you order
At this size a single sheet is inexpensive, which is exactly why the minimum matters more here than on the larger formats.
In practice that means a one-sheet job at C size costs the same as a nine-sheet one. If you are coming in for a single drawing, it is worth checking whether there is anything else in the project you will need printed this month, because you are paying for it either way.
Black and white, colour, and binding
Single sided black and white handles line work — details, sections, structural sheets. Choose single sided colour where the drawing carries meaning in the colour: discipline coding on a coordination sheet, landscape plans, anything going in front of a client.
At C size, plenty of jobs are a handful of loose sheets and need no binding at all. Left edge is worth it once you are past about six sheets and somebody has to keep them in order.

Questions we get asked
A PDF is best, with each sheet as one page at full scale. If your sheets come out of AutoCAD or Revit, plot to PDF at the drawing size rather than scaling to letter. We print what you send at the size you choose, so a sheet plotted to the wrong scale prints at the wrong scale.
Yes, but it is worth a conversation first. A bound set reads better when every sheet is the same size. If your set genuinely mixes sizes, tell us before you order and we will work out the cleanest way to handle it.
Usually more than they first think. A permit submission, a set for the office, one for each trade on site, and one for the owner adds up quickly. Printing all of them in one run costs less per set and means every copy matches, which matters when a revision lands.
Yes. ARCH C is the architectural standard at 18" x 24". It is not the same as ANSI C, which is 17" x 22" — if your title block was set up to an ANSI standard, tell us and we will check the fit before we print the set.
