What plastic coil actually gives you
A continuous plastic coil threads through punched holes along the edge. Two things follow from that, and both matter more in practice than they sound on paper.
It lies completely flat when open, so it stays where you put it on a desk or a worktop. And the pages turn a full circle, which means you can fold the whole booklet back on itself and hold it in one hand. Anyone working through a manual with a tool in the other hand will tell you that is the difference between useful and annoying.
The coil is plastic, so it springs back rather than crushing. Drop a spiral bound manual on a workshop floor and it survives. That is why it tends to win for anything that lives in a bag, a van or a plant room.

Questions we get asked
What does the plastic cover actually do?
A clear front lets your printed cover show through while protecting it from thumbprints, coffee and general handling. Black front and back is for internal manuals where the cover does not matter but durability does.
Spiral or Wire-O?
Same options and the same bracket, so choose on use. Spiral is plastic and survives being dropped. Wire-O is metal, sits squarer and looks sharper, but the loops can crush.
Which paper for a workbook people write in?
Something matte. Gloss and satin both resist ink, which is fine for a reference book and frustrating for a workbook.
Can I mix color and black and white pages?
Tell us what you need. The online options set one choice for the book, so for mixed jobs email us and we will quote it properly.
How thick can it go?
